Let me tell you about the hardest part of my day and the thing that causes me to dread gravity. I have to walk this long and slippery road (pictured here) four times a day. Planning every step with great care. This morning I fell, not even two steps into my journey. Then when I had gotten a few more feet a red pickup truck passed me by. It stopped and slowly started to back up accompanied by an audible beeping sound. I stopped and waited holding my ground so I didn’t slip under it’s wheels. I thought there move may be a rescue mission, a helping hand to help me on my way. That fleeting thought was extinguished as they passed me by. They stopped a few feet behind me so I continued on my way. It was then I took my second fall. Landing on my hands while they watched in the comfort of the warm truck cab. Probably giving odds to when and how this would occur. I couldn’t get any traction because the road was not only covered and slick but it also had the added option of an incline. So with humility I worked my way to the snow off the road. I climbed an embankment digging into the, also ice covered surface with my heels. There above my troubles I was able to move with the greatest of ease. Finally I discovered some true road peaking thru the ice and came down looking forward to getting my feet back on the ground. The moment only lasted a few more steps when my feet flew out from under me and I landed flat on my back. Fortunately my backpack acted as a safety feature cushioning the blow. By then the truck had went on it’s merry way. I laid there for a moment appreciating the way that life had made me stop and appreciate the things around me. The bright blue sky, the trees with their branches covered in icicles and the silence. It seems that no matter where you go there you are. Or as your friend and mine Oprah Winfrey has said “So go ahead. Fall down. The world looks different from the ground.”

I went to the Midwest Independent Film Festival this week. It’s the first Tuesday of  every month.  This was my first time. When you walk into the Century Mall you are immediately greeted by hosts who then proceed to point you in the right direction. You sign in at the Century Centre Cinema and are  welcomed by more festival ambassadors and invited to a cocktail party before the film. The pre-party is set up with lots of industry info and various groups sharing events, products and the latest in film technology. Before the film Festival Director Michael Macnamara welcomed everyone (just in case you weren’t feeling welcomed enough) and introduced a panel that discussed industry- related business. They then screened the very cool music video VILLAN by Logan Hall of Optimus.  Then we watched a great documentary  SADERMANIA by two amazing film makers Adam Gacka  and Paul Matian, This film was so engaging and true to itself. It was told in such a way that you were pulled into the story and happily went along for the ride. After  the film they had Q&A and as if that weren’t enough…everyone was invited to a nearby restaurant Forno Diablo for a great meal and  a post-show-schmooze reception. Wow what a night!  Join this group, check out upcoming events, you don’t want to miss the chance to be a part of this experience.  http://www.midwestfilm.org

Michael Wexler Actor

I could sit for awhile. Michael Wexler

“Friction-ally Unemployed” is the term my High-school Econ  teacher used to describe the career of an actor. As soon as you land the dream job it’s not long till you shoot the spot and you’re  looking for the new one. I know I am always looking for the next part, auditioning (at least 3 times a week),interviewing, networking, promoting. It seems like an uphill battle. I think it may just be part of the process. Nature of the beast. Of course having a short attention span really helps. Not being satisfied  with staying in one place for too long may help too. Its like a shark I need to keep moving …blah, blah, blah… truthfully, I wouldn’t mind 5 years on one TV series. I could learn to focus, I would settle , I’d even give being satisfied a try. Easy on- easy off, just like the expressway, That’s just how I roll. I’m sorry, where do I sign??
